Hi, my husband and i are declaring BR as soon as we have the funds to pay the court fees. We have filled in and submitted the forms on-line so are well on the way to getting this sorted at last! What I wanted to ask is this...I am currently on jobseekers allowance, which will change in April to maternity allowance, as I am expecting a baby in June. Next year I am seriously considering going back to college and doing a degree, which has pretty steep course fees. From what I gather, the college automatically applies for a student grant for you to pay for the fees, which you do not pay back until you have graduated and are earning over £15K. What effect will the BR have on this, will it automatically disqualify me from getting the loan? If so, I will need to either postpone and try to save up enough, or forget it altogether. :( Thanks for any advice. x

Hi

not 100% sure of future student loan applications while br.

However it is a criminal offence to apply for credit of £500 or more while in Br without telling them you are currently Br.

You could of course give them a call and ask them what the policy is.

Alternatively you may decide to hold off on your position until Oct when the application is authorised. The student debt won't be written off but at least you will be on the way to a new career.
