I made an anonymous call to my bank

I made an anonymous call to my bank (A&L) about possibilities with my account after BR. They were as helpful as a chocolate teapot and said straight away that it would be closed!
Ok, I've been a good customer to them for 15 years, never been overdrawn but if they don't want my business so be it.

Now I have the problem of sorting a new account, tranferring all benefit and DD payments etc (before or after BR?) and as it stands I have payments going in on three days of the week and going out three weeks of the month! The final straw is that my court date is 26 Feb and the next round of outgoings start on 1 March!
I haven't the foggiest idea of what to do or who bank with etc. Can anyone help? Please.

HI Leah

I also had problems with A & L the way they were running around i thought at first they mistook the word bankruptcy for lepracy, needless to say they closed my account.

I opened one with co-op 5 minute job over the phone.

Thanks Jo,
Sorry to be such an idiot, but how do I go about changing benefits and DD's? I've only ever had this account. I'm getting so mixed up and stressed with everything. Its like looking through mud!

And the direct debits? Do I have to contact people such as TV licence, gas and electric, insurance etc? Or does the bank do that automatically?

You will need to contact the companies individually and let them know you need to change your bank account - no need to say why. To give yourself some breathing space could you pay some of the bills at the Post Office by cash for a month?

Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.
