Hello,
I know this question isn't exactly bankruptcy related, but I wonder if anyone can help? My friend is worried because it appears her brother is in severe financial trouble. Exactly what kind of trouble I don't know to be honest. However the problem is that he now lives with his parents and apparently has been receiving letters from Bailiffs threatening to come and take any belongings away. What I would like to know is that if someone is living with their parents (or friends, etc) and they are in debt, can the bailiffs seize any contents of that household, regardless of whether they belong to the debtor or not? I don't know whether the debt is with loan sharks or a more reputable source. I did say the best thing her parents could do is go and see Citizens Advice, but I just thought I'd see if anyone could give some advice on here too.
Thank you

Bailiffs cannot take the goods of anyone other than the debtor, so your friends parents possessions will be ok.
The glimmer gets brighter all the time

Just to add....It isn`t illegal to remove your goods, before a balliff visits!!. It is illegal to do so, if they have been round, and told you they will come back for them!. As soon as ik knew that i might be having baliffs round, i stripped my flat...even part of my sofa, just incase!!. Once bankrupt, balliffs can`t touch anything, as it`s known as preferencial, i believe. |
