I'm trying to rent a house or flat but the letting agents do a credit search before taking me on, its my boyfriend & i but i went bankrupt 2 years ago and have been paying £120 a month since then which ends in June, is there any way of letting a property without a guarantor?

Hi

I'm afraid it is always difficult trying to arrange a rental after bankruptcy. You may do better by looking in the local paper for a private landlord with a property that meets your needs but is not letting through an agency.

Its tricky...most places want a guarantor or 6 mths upfront which obviously isnt easy to find. You may have more luck going through a private landlord...I was lucky and got a place through someone I know. She had previously rented tho to people in IVA/ BR

Does it make any difference that I've been discharged?

Your BR will remain on your credit file for 6 years from the date of the order though, so I assume that this is what agencies will check.

The glimmer gets brighter all the time
