Having read many Bank account posts I am stilln ot sure of the following as peoples stories differ. Am I right in thinking the Co op give a basic account with a visa debit card? I currently have accounts with overdrafts & visa debit cards all my accounts are in credit be that a few pence my point being I do not owe the bank anything I do not need the overdraft facilities and obviously would not be allowed them anyway and in fact for the forseeable future as I have no income I will not have any money to spend but was just wondering if I will be able to have a basic account with a visa debit (used onyl if money available in the account) just for online or food shopping necessities etc does anyone know the true answer or is it dependant on the individual etc? Thanks

Hi Charlie, the coop account gives you a visa electron card. You can open an account with Think Banking, they give you a maestro debit card but charhe you £12 per month and if you just need a card for online shopping and stuff you could get a prepaid card.

Hope this helps a bit

There is nothing wrong in opening the basic account with the Co-op who provide a card. With regard to the account you currently hold - is this linked to any of your creditors ie Lloyds bank account but have a lloyds credit card/loan? If it is 'linked' the account would have to be noted on the forms and closed by the OR.
If the account you currently hold is not linked to any of your creditors you would be able to continue with this account but you would have to show that you have removed the overdraft facility and ensure the account is runin credit at all times through the bankruptcy.

Hope this helps
