i was made bankrupt in oct 2008, it seems that my basic hsbc account is still active ( i just had a hole in the wall card), i was told that the account would be closed but can still see the account details online. does this mean the account is still active, and could i apply for another card???

Hi steveh

I would stay clear of HSBC. There may be delays in shutting down your account but believe me, they will do. They aren't bankrupt friendly!

I agree. HSBC aren't BR or IVA friendly so you're better to open an account with another bank (e.g. Co-op) if you haven't already done so.

Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.

Funny you say that. I opened a basic account with the HSBC the day after my bankruptcy without any difficulty!

As far as freezing/closing accounts goes, they can take ages if you have an overdraft and you might get some annoying calls and letters until they finally admit you're bankrupt. If you have any basic or savings accounts, you might be able to keep them. I had both (with the Abbey) and kept them, even though I'd been told to hand in the cards to the OR (hence the move to the HSBC).

Good luck with it all anyway
