I was made bankrupt in May 2008 and discharged in October 2008. I have a flexible saver account with Abbey which allows credits to be processed and cash withdrawals but no Direct debit facilities etc.I applied for a basic bank account and they declined. I also applied to Barclays for a basic account. This was turned down too - all the time racking up credit checks which further damage my credit rating. Is ther anyone specialising in offering basic banking facilities for people in my situation? I don't want credit - just debit card and Direct Debit facilities. Thanks Ken Marine
Alot of people on this forum including myself have a Cashminder account which is at the Co-op. They are very bankrupt friendly, I have standing orders, direct debits and have also been given a visa electron card. Give them a try!

i reckon the co-op is your best bet, even the O.R. said to me they advise people to open a co-op cashminder account as they are the most bankruptcy friendly bank out there. and ive had no problems at all with my account. hope this helps!
The Co-op are fantastic i opened an account and im still trading as a window cleaner so i get paid by a lot of cheques and i can pay them in via the post office as the nearest co-op is about 45 minutes away
