I get paid today, my first payday of the new tax year and was hoping that my NT Code would be changed back to it's normal code after it was changed for my IPO, it hasn't and I am now concerned I will have to ask my employer to change it back. I really didn't want to draw any attention to it. What's the best thing to do?

Thanks

The tax code will come from HMRC so they will be the one's who will inform your employer to change the code. Speak to your OR and check whether you should still be on a NT tax code or not.

It might be worth giving HMRC a call and speaking to them about it as your tax code should now have been changed back as it's a new tax year.

Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.

I had the same problem with the tax code not changing back. So I called the HMRC directly and asked them to change it back. The call took less than 3 minutes and was very easy. The man I spoke with said that he would now send a notication to my employer and it would be sorted in time for my next pay date. All I needed was my National Insurance Number for the phone call and that should now be 'job done'.

Hi there
We had the same problem so contacted our local tax office back at the beg of april and made sure that they were aware that the NT code was now finished and they reissued a letter to us about the new code and also one to the employer.

Hi,

Thanks for this thread - the same has happened to me too. I've phoned the Tax Office and sorted this out.

I did ask if it meant that effectively double tax would be collected next month, and was told it did. However, they can issue the correct tax coding on a 'special basis' I was told, so that only correct tax for the rest of the year would be collected and the underpayment for April assigned to be collected in the following tax year. This may be useful for those of us on a tight budget.
