What will be seen as ok or extravagant?

I mean i could manage with 2 bedrooms but ideally need 3 as i have 4 month old twins who share a room for now. I would also like a garden and poss garage etc, but these will cost more...

And with regards to cost, how close can i got to my old mortgage payments without looking like i could of afforded my mortgage, (even though i definatley could not have with all the over debts : loans/c-cards/overdraft/catalogues etc).

If you have a mortgage that costs, let's say, £1000 and before you go BR you move into rented accommodation that costs the same then there won't be a problem.

If your outgoings exceed your income then you are insolvent and can be declared BR. Once you are declared BR you will have an interview with the OR who will go through your I&E. They shouldn't question the amount you pay for rented accommodation unless it is a massive amount. Even then I doubt if they would be able to force you to move cheaper accommodation.

Thanks for the reply, do you know whether carpeting a rental would be ok, as the best property we have seen that meets our needs, will come un-carpeted and we'll need to carpet it?

Thanks

Having a carpet in a property is pretty much a necessity along with a washer, fridge, freezer, cooker, etc. so I can't see it being a problem. The ORs are understanding so it should be fine, again, providing you don't spend a fortune on the carpet. The OR will probably ask about the outlay but once you mention it is for a carpet as the property didn't have one there shouldn't be a problem.
