Hi
I was self employed & had my own business however i went BR in Nov 08 losing the business. I have been trying to seek work now since Jan 09 & struggling , i was in the motor trade & that is suffering in this present climate. I have applied for over 100 jobs in various different fields. We have been living off my wifes saving's for the past 6 months however that is now drying up, i have been to the jobcentre & they have informed me i am not entitled to any help because i was self employed for more than 6 months. I am not entitiled to any help from the goverment. Is anyone else in this same boat as it seems ridiculous?

Hi, Same for me I was employed for many years with my own company and then went sch D (self emp) to reduce costs on the advice of an accountant only to find that I am now not eligable for any benifts. Amazing. The young lady I had an interview with in the job centre decsribed how the office was trashed recently when they told a group of builders they did not qualify. I spoke with them again the other day and they tell me they are turning away about 30% of claiments. This gov certainly changed the rules for their benifit.

The unemployment figures are like everything else this goverment produces utter trash, how many ex self employed people are sitting at home with no work & no financial support. Role on a general election & get these clowns out of power. However i am unsure who would be best to lead this country out of its mess because MP's are not in touch with the real world.
