My friend lives on the Isle of Man, she has property in England that will be repossessed and credit card debts, loans etc. Can she declare bankruptcy here and which court will she need to go to? Thanks
I presume that she will be able to declare BR where she is at is part of the British Isles. If there is a county court near to her then I assume it would be there. She should perhaps phone them and ask.
Isle of Man insolvency is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT to the UK.
It is based on the 1892 Insolvency Act, you need to have an Advoicate represent you in court you need a trustee who will manage your contributions to creditors over a couple of years there is no discharge after 12 months, but more likely after 2 years after an effort has been made to repay some of the debt.
Need expert advice.
Happy to speak to your friend if necessary, but this forum is not the place to get insolvency advice for the Isle of Man as although there are UK debts the process is very different.
