I went bankrupt in August. I have just discovered that the OR has notified the council of this. I have a secured 14 tenency with the council. I have rent arrears of about £60.00. The council have said that they have opened my rent and council tax records, and they are going to write to me. Will I loose my council house and why did the OR contact them I did not declare them as a creditor. Any info would be good as Im very worried

I went BR in April of this year with council tax and rent arrears which were included in our BR these were written off by the council and new council tax and rent accounts opened and we were not evicted. I wrote to the council before our BR to see if this was there policy and they told me not. Maybe you could ring the council.

Hi T-H,

I went bankrupt in March this year and about a month later received a council tax statement which no longer was in my name. I phoned them to ask them to explain why my name was no longer on the bill and he informed me that it was probably due to my bankruptcy. This is very strange as I have always paid my council tax on time and was not in any arrears whatsover. He did say he was also mystified as to why my name was no longer on the bill.

To be quite honest, I couldn't be bothered in trying to ammend it. If they don't want my name on the council tax bill, then that's up to them. I still pay the council tax bills each month, only now the bill is in my flat mates name instead. It's just annoying and strange that they should say I am no longer liable. Does this mean I no longer am liable to pay council tax? I very much doubt it.

I think it is probably highly unlikely that you will lose your house.

Don't worry.

The glimmer gets brighter all the time
