on my bankrupcy form its asking if i had divorce in the past five years i have been divorced but not sure if its 4 or 5 years do they check up on it? also i hada payment of 23k apart from a car i bought and later sold i can not remember wat i spent the money on wat do i do?
They may check on the divorce. Do you still have the decree nisi or absolute? They may well check up by contacting the court that issued the divorce.
£23k is a lot of money and the OR won't be satisfied with a 'general living expenses' answer. Did you pay off any creditors with this money, go on holiday, buy another car, etc. If this money was paid into your bank account then you can check back in the statements and see if any large amounts you withdrew jog your memory.
The OR will want the solicitors details as it is standard practice to contact the solicitor and obtain the divorce file where there is a financial settlement
I was divorce 6yrs prior to bankruptcy with a payoff of £30,000 i dreaded being asked the question where the money gone , but the question was asked, i just said it disappeared i was trying to start a business and also used for general living moved to flat need furniture. He said thats fine i just need to put something in report to creditors
well i did buy a car for 12k, hada holiday for about 2k and had to buy things for my house as had nothing in it, i dont have the receippts r owt will they believe me???
i had a holiday too but ddnt say went to dublin for a week then flew to prague for a week then off to spain and train to france and back by ferry. Cost over £5000 . Just said i had a holiday to get over divorce infact went on holiday to celebrate
Put down that you bought a car for £12k, a holiday for £2k and then the rest as general living expenses. The OR may question this but if you really can't remember where the money went then there is not a lot you can do.
At the end of the day most people (myself included) on this board are here because we are not very good with our finances so the OR is not expecting you to account for every pound.
