I do work but am due too have a baby and go on maternity leave in the next few months. My wages get paid into my bank account each month but apart from my bank account i have no assets a all. Can i still keep my bank account during and after aplling for bankruptcy?

The Bankruptcy rules mention that you are allowed to hold a basic bank account where you get a debit card and can probably set up some Direct Debits. No cheque book or cheque card. Your benefits can be paid into thi ac**** and when the money has gone, it has gone. Unfortunately most banks will not cater for bankrupts, even although they are spposed to do so. However the Coop Bank will offer such an account called a Cashminder account. It is probably easiest if you open this yourself prior to the bankruptcy.

All the very best.

Give the Co-op a call and open a Cashminder account over the phone. It can take up to 10 days to receive the account details as they are very busy at the moment. Once the account is open arrange for your salary/maternity pay to be paid into that account and then declare BR.

Your other account will definitely be frozen and more than likely will be closed so you need to plan a bit ahead before declaring BR.
