Hi all, i am new to this so please bear with me. I am considering going bankrupt in the UK before moving to the USA to be with my girlfriend. Could anyone possibly tell me what restrictions will be put on me or affect my chance of working in the states?

Many Thanks
Mark

The following site has some publications regarding BR and the restrictions - http://www.insolvency.gov.uk/guidanceleaflets/Guides.htm

When you get to the US the restrictions will also apply there so if you open a bank account you will be obliged to tell the bank that you are BR, the same if you apply for a credit card, etc.

I cannot say whether it would affect you working in the US or not.

A lot of people clear their debts before moving abroad and this is much easier than having to come back to declare BR.

Thank you very much both. Now I have some direction, I can look into it a bit more. Thanks again.
