Hi All,

Not been on here for a while, but, went BR in may 09, filled in 2 IPOQ forms from the OR, now just waiting to see what comes next. My confusion comes over child benefit, and whether or not it is included. I've been searching through the forum this evening, it seems I was right to include it on my IPOQ. But I did read that it isn't included for the purposes of an income payment order?? Is that right?

I calculated that I have disposable income of £142, but my child benefit is £134, so if its not included for the IPO, does that mean my disposable income is only £8??

I hope this makes sense to someone!!! Thanks in advance for any advice!

(oh and the moving in with partner went terribly wrong, so back on my own again now, which is why I had to do another IPOQ!!!!! )

Yes child benefit is taken into account, the interpretation of the ruled changed mid 2009.

As always though the OR will not start an IPA if your only income is benefits and the the IPA cannot be larger than your earned income

I do work, so I guess I'm looking at an IPA starting sometime soon then, at 50% that puts it at £71.

Thats alot.

Have you made sure that you have accounted for all of your child related expenses, that you would normally pay for out of the child benefit

I went over and over my form before I sent it off. BUT, I think I may have made a mistake. I'm studying at the moment, but also on contract while I'm training, so I have full time pay. I am exempt from paying council tax while I'm studying, due to end may 2011. On my IPOQ I said I was exempt from council tax, but with disposable income of £142, I will end up with an IPA. So come may 2011 when I'll have to find £120 for council tax, I wont be able to afford the IPA!!!

In an IPA, if your circumstances change so does the IPA, so if your surplus goes down so does the IPA and visa versa
