Hi,
I will shortly be automatically discharged and am looking at using a Natwest current account I set up prior to BR when I was considering an IVA. I currently have a Coop cashminder account and whilst this is fine I would lik a 'proper' current account. I have checked my account by phoning Natwest a couple of days ago and the current account is still active - no o/d or cheque book - despite being listed on my bankruptcy forms. I assume this maybe because Natwest were not one of my creditors. Natwest confirmed over the phone that I can just switch over my wages and direct debits and that will be fine - even offered me an appt in branch so they could do it for me! I am just paranoid if I switch over my wages and direct debits something will happen. Do you think it'll be fine and I should go ahead?
For anyone considering BR I'd say this time last year I had the worst Christmas/New Year of my life and thought I was on the brink of loosing everything, home, relationship, life etc.. But this year couldn't have been more different, yes buying pressies was tight but managed it all just on using money from wages - no credit!! I did loose my relationship for a while but thankfully that seems back on track and the future - well there seems to be one!! My solely owned property was sorted in Aug/Sept so that is back in my name and my employer couldn't have been more understanding. Yes it has been the most stressful year of my life, I seem to have been on edge most of it waiting for post from either OR or my solicitor but it was the best decision I have ever made.
Thanks for all the advice I have received over the past year, this forum really helps in going into things with eyes wide open and fully informed. |

I think it will be ok to switch to the NatWest account. If you have a look at Skippy's blog (http://skippy13.blogs.bankruptcyhelp.org.uk/) you will see that a similar thing happened with her Nationwide accounts.
Just to be safe I would tell NatWest that you are a discharged bankrupt so there won't be any nasty surprises if they find out. |

Gettingoutofdebt is right, I switched to a Nationwide Flexaccount that I had prior to BR.
I have to say that I didn't tell Nationwide about my BR and nothing has ever been said. I actually received a new chequebook yesterday so it looks as though everything is ok.
I actually switched back to my Co-op Cashminder as I prefer the Co-op to Nationwide, but I use the account for cheques and it's nice knowing I have a full account.
Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.
