Dear All,

I have been discharged from Bankruptcy for 2 years now, which is fantastic. However, I have already done the Cashplus card, and shown taht I can pay back monthly installments. I pay my household bills and telephone bill on time. What else is there to do? I am scared of applying for anything else, as they may turn me down and then this will show up on my credit report...

Anyone got any advice as to what else i could do...

I really want to go on the mortgage with my partner - but im scared I will get turned down and it will have a negative impact.

Hi 369,

You are doing all the right things and that is very much to your credit.

If I am honest (and I do not want to dishearten you in any way), you may struggle before the 6 years post BR to get a mortgage. There are some lenders, Kensington being one that springs to mind, that may be prepared to consider adverse credit history for a joint mortgage, but since the recession took hold, many sub prime lenders have tightened their belts.

I say this in good faith and hope that the economy picks up and then lenders will relax their restrictions again. You may feel it is worth speaking to an IFA to see what they say about the prospect.

Whatever happens, I do wish you well and I sinerely hope your desire can be achieved, Richard

Richard, haven't Kensington had some bad press recently?

Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.

Hi Skippy,

I had not seen that - so my comments are prefaced by a possible warning - I was really trying to say that there are still some sub prime lenders there - in fact, they all need a "health warning" - caveat emptor and all that...

regards, Richard

Hi all

if you are going to any of the mortgage companies ask the broker to find out what products are available telling them that you are discharged BR before they do a credit search on you,as you do not want loads of credit file enquiry footprints, as this may also put mortgage companies off.

regards Richard
