Maxine When I was in the run up to going BR i went from complete panic at the task ahead to total excitement at the prospect of a debt free future and a new start. Trust me it's worth the hassle! Even now I still feel huge relief that the debt is finally gone after what must be more than 7 years of struggling and a failed IVA! You are in good company on this forum, we have all been there or are going through it.

All I can say is WOW, what tremendously helpful and supportive people you all are! I am starting to calm down a little now with your help I realise that if i fill anything in wrong or forget anything then its not the end of the world i will just let the or know when I remember. I am now just writing down income and outgoings, and I would like to know if there is any sort of guideline to what you can put down and how much your allowed? I am single and live on my own, although I do still send £35.00 a month to my ex for help with my daughter and her mobile bill and a little bit of spends can i list that? Also i have a contact order from the court which states I can have 3 monthly contact which has not been happening of late as I do not have the money to get there and back! Can i put down £30 a month that i need to save up to travel to see my daughter? I would really appreciate a full list of what I can reasonably put down for my outgoings. Thanks everyone, hopefully all drinks will be on me after Thursday fingers crossed! Maxine x |

Hi Maxine,
You won't find any lists on what is and is not acceptable expenditure otherise the OR will constantly see everyone claiming the same expenditure! I would suggest you work out a realistic figure +10% for unforseen expenses and I'm sure you'll be fine.
Where are you (roughly) geographically? I'm on the road on Thursday and will probably be in need of a pint :)

Hi Maxine,
Just remember to not be too conservative. If you tell the OR you can eat for £10 a month, than that's what they'll expect you to do!

Hi Julian, I will, like all the drinks I owe on here!LOL Just one more thing how much can you have left over after you put down all your outgoings? Do they take money from you if its over a certain amount? I think I will have approx between £50-100 left per month. Thanks again Maxine x |

Hi Maxine,
The OR will allow you up to £100 a month disposable income before they look at an IPA/IPO (income payment arrangement/income payment order). Over the £100 a month, they can take 50-70% (on a sliding scale) every month over the next three years.

Hi Julian Ok that sounds like a fortune at the moment!!! I will make changes accordingly so that I have less than £100, thanks again. Also do they tell you at your interview how long it will be before they discharge you? Maxine x |

Hi Maxine,
Automatic discharge occurs at 12 month. However, you usually receive an early discharge questionnaire after 6 months. Currently, it is not uncommon to be dischrged in 6-8 months.

Hi Everyone, Ok this morning I plucked up courage to ring N-Power about them coming to my flat this Friday to cut me off. After all the good advice from you all! So i spoke to a guy named David and he said dont worry it is not that simple it takes quite a long time to actually come to cut you off! He said to ring him on Thursday when I get back from court with my bankruptcy number so he can put the info on my account. He also said if anyone does turn up on Friday just show them you bankruptcy details and that will be the end of it! Phew I am glad I have taken the first step with all the good advice and support from the good people on this forum! So a BIG BIG thank you to you all I hope Thursday will go as smoothly! Maxine x |
