I agree, and, if I were lucky enough to own one, I'd hate to have to part with a horse as well!!

I would have no problem with some exotic pets, e.g. a monkey, being seized as the would probably be better off as they shouldn't be kept as pets!

Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.

I agree with that one Tracey!! Don't you have to have a licence for that sort of pet?

I'm not sure to be honest. I support Monkey World in Dorset and some of the stories about how so called pets are treated make me cry.

I can remember a man who lived in the Midlands who used to keep big cats (lions etc) as pets - he did have a licence but how awful to keep them so confined (he didn't have a lot of land if I remember rightly).

I have a mental image now of a comedy sketch with a little OR holding a clipboard and a small net with a worried look on his face saying "so I've come to repossess the lions"

Having read all the comments I, too, was concerned that I might lost my two beautiful dogs, but I found out - on here - that I wouldn't. Unfortunately, the problem I'm having is trying to find somewhere to live where the landlord will accept pets. Most tenancies - in this area anyway - seem to include an "anti-pet policy". I don't want to have gone through the emotional turmoil of the last three years, only to go through another one of losing all my animals!

Hi bearsndogs,
From a landlords point of view, I always had a no pets policy. However, if I was approached 'sensibly' I would always negotiate that part of the tenancy.
An unfurnished property is always easier to negotiate on, using the bargaining tool that you will completely redecorate on vacating, and include that in the deposit. A larger deposit may also then be required.
Hope that helps.

I hope you find somewhere soon bearsndogs. I can't think of anything worse than having to rehome my cat.
Personally I think it's disgraceful that so many landlords discriminate against people with pets. I'd rather have animals in my house than some humans!

I'd live in a tent rather than lose my dogs!!
I agree Tracey - the vast majority of us are responsible pet owners and would not allow our pets to do anything to a house.
It should not be a blanket 'no pets' but each case should be considered individually.
I'd like to see a landlord say no to my daughter and son-in-law - his dog is a guide dog so I doubt any landlord could refuse on those grounds.

From a landlords point of view, he or she need to protect their property, hence my previous post.
Whilst you might be responsible pet owners, a lot who think they are, aren't.
Most houses need redecorating even after a responsible tenant has been in.
Surely the tenant should meet that cost?

I'd rather say no children than no pets if I was a landlord!
Niobe, I doubt a landlord would be able to refuse to allow the guide dog and if they did I'd hope it would be challenged in court if necessary.

I'm sure no kids would be contested the same as a blond person.
Anyway, just because a property is available to rent, doesn't mean you have to let it.
Just like a landlord of a pub, you can choose who you serve.
