hi there,
has anyone been told by the OR that broadband isn't an acceptable expense, it's probably the only thing i couldn't do without.

Hi Andy
My broadband was included in my BT phone amount which was £50 per month. I did not list it seperately just one amount for home phone and its been allowed, i was not however allowed mobiles as i have a phone line.

The OR does state on whats alowed and whats not that broadband is in the "whats not" allowed catagory. However there have been some successful cases within the site recently with the OR. Out of interest why could you not be without it??

I was allowed landline, broadband and mobile. I am pay-as-you-go on my mobile and it comes out at approx £40 a month for all three, my landline and broadband is a package. |

I don't have a landline (it's in my partner's name) so I put my mobile under 'telephone' - I didn't think to declare it seperately. Ooops!

I did not actually put down broadband at all, i only pay £50 per month to BT and that is what i put down, they allowed it as like i said i did not write seperately. It was not a case of not thinking of putting it down i just put down what i pay to BT for my call package and i completely forgot that my BB package is in that amount too. We will pay our PAYG mobiles out of our DI but as of yet we dont have an IPA to pay so we should at present be alright. Dont know if that has helped or just confused things. :)

I think reasoning should help. I will be putting it down as an expense and any attempt to remove it will result in the OR losing his/her job! There are some things some people just can't do without, for instance I couldn't live without a mobile phone - not because of talking to people but because of texting due to a disability. Same thing applies with broadband, I literally could not live my day to day life without it, and of course it would actually be detrimental in efforts to find a job and pay people off. Things like that annoy me, you're told to do everything you can to improve on your debt situation but then told it's going to be made more difficult for you because you have to do it without speaking to anyone and without internet...
Bit of a doom and gloom situation as it's obviously not that bad as you can see from the above posts. As long as we remember the OR is not the bad guy, it'll all work out fine. |

Hi all,
I agree with Jo and Skippy that it's best to declare this as "telephone" to avoid any problems/
