hi my husband and i made ourselves bankrupt on 3/5/07 after i had to give up work to look adetr my terminally ill mum and hubby lost his job.We were in a mess and struggledfor 12 months paying voluntary payments but every 6 months they wanted more.I have to say it is like a great weight has lifted off our shoulders no more horrible letters and constant phone calls asking for money we just couldn't pay.Things are better now hubby has a job and is paying income payments but he has also got tax relief for 12 months. The only worry now is our house. We are in negative equity this was comfirmed when i phoned the official receiver a few months ago she said the file was now being passed to a central office. We have heard nothing else and its been nearly 5 months.Do we have to contact them to offer to by the equity or will they contact us.If we hear nothing at all does it mean they don't want us to sell it. Has anybody been through this process who could advise us?thanks c pen
Generally if there is Negative equity they do not make you sell the house BUT you must keep up the contractual mortgage payments. Check this with your OR. Have you tried the sister site? www.iva.co.uk ? lots of usefull info Try Problems with Northern Rock 17th August.
