Hi again,

We've just had an email from our landlord saying he wants to come round tomorrow to see us and I'm unsure whether it's best for us to tell him about our BR.

We're not 100% sure whether the OR will have to tell him yet but think he probably will. Would it be best for us to tell him now or wait till we find out for sure if he needs to know??

What are your opinions folks??

If we were on deal or no deal, I guess I'd be doing a sweep to see what you all think! (heehee)

Thanks in advance!

Hi CG

as you know this is just a matter of opinion.
Total honesty versus a need to know basis.

For my part I'm a born sceptic and much as I hate to say it, over the years I have seen my faith in others diminish (what a miserable s*d!!)

So if it were me I would tell the LL only if and when they need to know.

Hi

If the OR has already received the information about your landlord, he has probably already been told. Wait and see what he says.

Hello,

Would your Landlord normally come round?
I would imagine that your OR has already told him.

I told my landlord as I lived in the flat above him, and saw him everyday. He said that it was fine with him as long as i kept on paying the rent.

Generally as long as you keep paying the rent then they should be fine, in fact you should actually have more money to pay the rent as you wont be paying out for all your creditors each month when you are BR!!!

hi i would agree as long as your rent is being paid on time there shouldnt be a problem, i also rent and my landlord said just that, i chose to tell him myself at the same time reassuring him that i wouldnt affect my tenency, so dont worry, as long as landlords get thier money i dont think they realy care.

Hi all,

Most landlords are fine as long as they know about it. However, although AST's (tennancy agreements) are pretty standard, it has been known for some landlords to put a clause in ragarding BR. Best read over it to double check.

That's the problem Julian. There IS a clause in there about bankruptcy. The OR told us he wouldn't be told till after we discussed it at interview so I'm hoping he doesn't know. It's the lettings agent who put the clause in though and we phoned them anonymously to ask if it would be a problem ad they said they didn't think so but it would be up to each individual landlord.

Some of you wondered if he already knows and that's why he's coming round, but he made provisional arrangements to come round this week prior to our BR but only yesterday emailed to say it would be today. Still not sure what to do really...

Hi BC,

In my experience, these clauses are put in so they can get you out quickly if you stop paying them. As long as your rent is paid on time, your landlord won't care and you should be fine.

Hi!

Well, we took the plunge and told him! And guess what?! He told us of all his own money woes over the years and about when he went BR himself!

He was very nice indeed, telling us to enjoy the house, it's our home now ...

Sooooo relieved!

Thanks all for the advice!
