my husband works full time but i have always been a housewife due to health reasons although i'm not on any benefits - will they force me to work to pay towards the debts? Also our eldest child doesnot pay any board at the moment as she is working part time, can we still name her as a dependant? we are due to go bankrupt on 10th october. Thanks so much for your help.

Hi there I don't think that they can force you to go to work, especially if there are health reasons for not doing so. I have no idea about you reldest daughter but i am sure someone will be along soon who can help you with that. Good luck for the 10th. Nat

Thanks Nat, I can't believe it's nearly 10th! I've been trying not to think about it really, but now it's so near my head is starting to fill with all sorts of questions. I've gained a lot from reading everyone's replies so thats been good. What about pocket money, will we be able to put that down on the list? Christmas/birthday savings? and school activities, are they allowed? I'm beginning to worry about it all now.

Just a quick one, the examiner told me today the only thing she wouldn't allow for was Gifts ie, xmas/birthday.

Hi scared2death
I too am a housewife and cannot work as i dont have any help with the children.
I have not been told that i will have to work. And to be honest i have never thought about it until you mentioned it.
When i filled my BR forms in i just put child tax credits and child benefit down, and then i had to put what my hubby needs to contribute to the expenses. Therefore leaving no D.I.
Not sure about your eldest child, however there will be an expert to help you soon.
Take care
Jenny xx

I didnt put it down as an income - i put it in the benefits section. I have been told they dont include child benefit as its for the children, but you still should list it anyway.
Is it just yourself or both of you going BR?

No Gifts!! How much disposable income are we allowed to have then or does it depend on circumstances? Do we use this for xmas?
Sorry about this but it seems that one answer leads to more questions...I could be on here all night! thanks so much for your help.

Hi scared2death,
We both went BR too, and I put it down on my form as it's in my name and not hubby's. It wasn't included in the calculations for the IPA, although I've heard of things for children (activities etc) being taken out of the expenses, because the OR reasons the CB should be used for that. I haven't had my breakdown yet though so I'm not sure if they've taken them off ours for the same reason.
Hope that helps!
Oh, and a warm welcome from me too! :-)

Hi C,
Yes thanks that makes sense. I'll have to calculate ours again then and not include CB, the activites don't come anywhere near the full amount though. |

No, ours didn't either. Just leave the activities in as an expense though, they usually seem to let them go through, but just wanted you to be aware it has happened where they disallow them and say they should come out of the CB, especially if it means the difference between an IPA and no IPA, ie the disposable income is near to the £100 mark.
Hope that helps hon.
Keep posting, because it's all so daunting, isn't it? I don't know how I'd have done it without having this place as somewhere to let off steam and ask LOTS of questions! :-)

Awww bless you Jenny,
I'm still really panicky, but I'm trying really hard to do something I've never been any good at, which is not worrying till I know for sure! :-)
I felt really bad last night seeing people posting for advice, but not feeling up to it, so I thought I'd better get my act together today and get 'back in the saddle' as it were!
Thanks again your message hon, I really appreciate it.
