Hi

Have you tried the CAB to see if there are grants available in your area to help out with petitioning costs? The only other option is for family or friends to help you out or to sell some stuff.

hi, it took me 2 1/2 months to scrounge the fee together, but if you go to citizens advice they will write to your creditors and tell them you are saving for the fee to go br. - you will at least feel you have a bit of control and time to get your head around things. You will still get letters and phonecalls but at least you will have taken a step towards accepting your situation and looking to the future a bit.

Ive lost about 8kgs in weight with the 'war-time' diet i had to go on towards saving the fee, so its not all bad and ive learned inventive things to do with potatos - my hair is grey at the roots (no hairdressers etc) and ive been so down about it before i picked up the forms, i thought of taking my own life - i had a house, car and good job but it all went down the tubes when i had a breakdown and like you i just continued to spend as if i was still working - i thought i would get better and be working again. I now live quietly in a tiny rented room.
Anyhow ive had to let go of who i used to be and now never want another credit card ever again - or property - or a car - its kind of liberating, so dont be afraid, dwelling on your mistakes and misfortunes - get on with building a new you and making some closure on the past - it will feel like a tidal wave approaching but it will pass.
Im no expert as ive yet to present the br forms to the court, but i can relate to your feelings on the matter.
take care

hi superbroke
i know how you feel trying to find the fee to go br is almost funny except that it is true
anyway if you are in receipt of certain benefit i.e.income support jsa etc you can claim a reduction of the fee by £150 meaning that as long as you are not going to the high court your fee should be £345 also if you are a customer of certain utilites they have grants available the utilites i know of are edf ednergy, british gas, anglian water, and some other water companies if youlook at "needafried" blog you will find the web address for these and possable a few more there
from what you say in your post one of your suppliers has already applied to makeyou br if thats the case then you do not need to find any fee you can check on the insolvancy register to see if you have already been made br,i hope this helps in some way

Hi Superbroke,

I would love to loan you the money to go BR but i cant :-(, i would say though as eamonn has said have a look through my blog i have listed some ideas on how you may get help with the fee.

Some people also save from not paying there creditors for a month or 2 prior to BR, others ask family, some sell a few things anything to get the money.
You say a creditor is about to make you BR, they only do this as a last resort and often threaten about it in order to scare you into doing something about your debts. They would rather not make you BR but if BR is what you feel you must do it may be better to get there before they do.

I have heard of people doing this, but to be honest it's a no no - once you know you're insolvent you mustn't use any form of credit. The OR could end up giving you a BRU for borrowing money you know you couldn't repay.

Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.

It's a bankruptcy restriction undertaking. Although you would be discharged from BR after a year, you would still be subject to the restrictions of BR (no credit over £500, can't work in certain professions etc) for the duration of the BRU.

I'm not saying you would definitely get a BRU (I don't want to scare anyone!), but it is something that needs to be considered.

Thanks Skippy - i wont be doing that then :-)

My b/f is very scared at the thought of me going BR and we are exploring alternative avenues. He has been told that i would NEVER be able to get a mortgage because of BR is that correct?
