Hi

I received a call from the OR today - he said the car is valued at 3300 pounds and we will have to pay the difference if we cannot proove cheaper value. They will take the car and give us 2000 pounds for it. He has suggested we get valuations and send them to him. He was very nice about it. We will not be able to find the difference.

Any advice anyone - where to go for valuations online??? If in Parkers guide which figure to go for?

Thanks in advance

Dee

Hi Dee

There is a couple of links in my blog.

Have a look, these provide free valuations. :-)

You can always argue the point re the valuation and with parkers you should really look at the trade price as this is the maximum they will obtain at auction ( then there are fees on top).

Thanks for that info.

The Parkers guide states 2,795 trade price. How do I go about trying to make him see this - dont get me wrong he seems really reasonable and said go out and get valuations. He said if we could find the difference it would save a lot of paperwork etc. Is it best do you think to screen print the Parkers page and send it to him?? Or write a letter??

Thanks

Hi Dee

print the page and also remember to adjust this for any extra mileage that the car has done.

You might also want to get a glasses guide valuation which would certainly be lower.

From my experience recently both glases & parkers seem to be way out on valuations because things just don't sell unless they are of exceptional value.

a letter would do nicely.

They may also accept £500 over 3 months ( provided it wasn't coming from you)

Sorry another question

Do you know what difference they make you pay?

Is it between the 2000 they would give you for your car and the value or 2500 and the value?

Thanks

really down to negotiation now.

thee are guidelines but they also are looking for the best way of releasing money for the Br - i.e. with the lowest costs.

So you are well placed to firtly discus the value of the car and secondly make an offer.

Thanks Paul

I am not good at negotiating - also a bit scared of winding him up. If he says it is valued at 3300 (he said earlier today) do you think we could go with the glasses guide of 3000 and the parkers of 2700, say it is worth 2850 and offer 350 ( the difference between the 2500 and the average value?) I hope my question makes sense!!!

Thanks

Always go with the lowest value, and then get some info from local sources - second hand dealers , info on autotrader / local paper etc. Anything to demonstrate that the car is worth less.

Then go and offer a smaller amount - you can always increase the offer afterwards.

Most importantly get proof of what the car is worth as a trade price.

Thanks Paul

Have got two valuations from the Internet, Glass and Parkers. We will get local paper and go and see a garage or two at the weekend to see if we can get a written valuation.

Thanks for your advice.

Hi

Spoke to the OR assistant who is dealing with our case. I said very nicely that I thought the valuation on our car was out by quite alot. He said their auction houses were not infallable and to email through the prices and links from the internet. ( AA = 2,500, Parkers = 2,700) I did this on Thursday we just wait and see.

well done

sounds like you have a reasonable OR. At least they are willing to review it which is great.

Sometimes valuations are wrong and don't resemble real life values so always worth a look.

Thanks Paul

If we had not had your advice we would have just accepted it and thought we were unable to challenge him.
