Hi all,
Could anyone give me some advice please? Do you think it would be better for me to contact my creditors and try to arrange a pro-rata payment and ask them to freeze interest if only for 6 months, before going down the IVA/Bankruptcy route. Obviously, if they say 'no' then I will have no option, but I just wondered if its worth asking them in the first instance?
Thank you

Hi Keith
You could give that a go, i did and it worked for a while but i still ended up going BR as the debts were not reducing and it was an arrangement made by me and them and so no court protection.
It is down to you at the end of the day, you must do what is right for you. I know its scary but at the end of the day you need to be able to see some light at the end of the tunnel.
I hope you decide what you want to do and get a plan together and so you can start to look forward.
Take care

Hi
as Jo has said the choice is yours, providing the delay is all part of a planned exit from debt.
If you're nervous and this is the reason for the delay then I would advise you to bite the bullet as it were as you are unlikely to feel any different about BR until it's actually done.

Hi,
I tried the letters for pro-rata payment and then the national debtline worked out it wouls take 28 years for me to pay the debts and that my best option would be BR. I was shocked and very anxious, but the guys on here really helped me with emotional support and form filling support. Whilst its not a piece of cake, it really isn't as bad as you think it will be. I would give the helpline a ring it free and it will go though your options.
Take care

All i can suggest is really to get a plan together and make sure as i have said before that you stick to this plan.
I know its easy to try and forget about it and the last thing going through anyones mind is Bankruptcy, but as we will all agree on here, those of us who have done it now know whilst its scary it was the best thing we could have done.
When i made my own DMP it was going to take me till way past retirement to pay my debts and i had no guarantees that the creditors were not going to try other ways of getting there money back, like a charge over my home or take pay direct from our wages.
It got so stressfull in the end we went BR but i tried for nearly 2 years to do that, but still ended up with no money each month and my kids suffered too and i am so glad that i did what i did.
You have to do whats right for you but you should get some proper advice, call our helpline, they will help you and get you on the right road.
That number is 0800 078 9367.
Take care :-)
