Depends what you mean by "bad experience"?
I think going bankrupt was the best thing I have ever done! Whilst it was very stressful and we lost our house and cars and the uncertainty of not knowing where we were going to live with 3 children and 2 cats was awful, everything worked out great in the end. The OR wanted an IPA and that was a very stressful time as we had £20 surplus but they wanted to take £50 per month, I could not see where they were getting their figures from and appealed against it and it was dropped and we even got early discharge. One member of my family and an ex-friend have said some awful things about me for being in debt and going bankrupt but I no longer speak to them, (their loss, not mine)
Now, over one year later, we have a newly renovated council house, (lifetime tenancy) very cheap rent, and any money we earn is ours to keep. I just so glad and relieved that we now have no debt, in fact I have turned into a right scrooge, I hate spending money unless it is for something worthwhile, like an item for the house or a holiday. I am currently aiming for a new car, saving like mad
No regrets whatsever from me! |

Hi GMS
In a word NO. I dont regret going bankrupt, the only thing i do regret is not doing it sooner.
I thought i would feel really bad almost guilty but even though i did at the time i have since got over that and started to live again, for myself and my husband as well as my family it was the best choice we made and there was no other options left open to us.
Our OR and Examiner have been really nice, i know its only over the 5 months now but looking back the debts almost ruined my life and now i am free to start afresh and learn from that and not do it again.
We never had expensive holidays, our cars were cheap, our most expensive thing in the house was a TV for £350 but most of our money went into the house so i cant say we lived lavishly as we did not.
Its personal choice and i am sooooo glad that i did it and when i did it too, it gave me my life, my marriage and a new beginning.
Just waiting to sort the house out now, it looks like it in neg equity and so we are working with the OR to get that sorted out asa we want to stay here. I am also glad that i never ever took out any finance secured against my property, if we had then i think things may be different, luckily for us no one wanted us when we applied and that looking back was a good thing as we only have one secured debt, the mortgage and we can manage that payment.
LOL

Hi,
Neither me or my husband regret going bankrupt. In fact, it was one the best decisions we have ever made.
It was not an easy choice for us and we had many many sleepless nights due to the worry. We also made the decision to tell our parents and we have had nothing but support from them. Their thinking was that we weren't the first and we certainly won't be the last.
I have had my first EVER Christmas not using credit and boy does it feel good.
Unfortunately the mortgage rate dropping substantially means that we will more than likely end up with an IPA but that is a small price to pay and I feel like I am paying something back.

Hi GMS
What a right pain in the rear for you today. I know how you feel about the good and the bad days, we all go through the what ifs and should i, but i know that once you have done it you wont regret it and you will have a new lease of life.
I hope things get sorted out for you and the sooner the better.
LOL

GMS
Get him to read some of my blog the beginning i wrote how i felt and how we have got through it.
Maybe that will help. There are so many of us now going down that road so tell him there is no stigma now, there is nothing to be scared off and it will give you a life again.
LOL and let us know how it all goes

nope no regrets at all but then its only 6 hours ha ha ha ! but seriously i understand the doubts, i never doubted that BR WAS the right option for us just had lods of questions that i needed to get straight in our heads, thing like are we in big trouble, are we frausters or criminals etc, i think its very easy to beat yourself up too !!!! ok we were stupid but honestly thought we could cope with all the credit cards and loans......used to say to each other " well we work very hard, why cant we have what we want " i guess now in hindsight, we tried to run before we could walk, we always just took the credit with the intention of never struggling to pay it back, i think in a strange way its the best thing that could happen to us ;-)

moving forward to new beginnings |

the things i regret about the going BR - like some others on here are:
1 the reasons i had to turn to it
2 the length of time i thought about it before i did it
3 the money i wasted before #2 above.
some reasons why i DONT regret it...
A sleep better
B bit more to look forward to
C completely fresh start
the only bad experience i can think of is that when i'd actually turned up at the court and did it that i went through the stages of relief and then got mad at myself for the reasons in #2 above.
anyone wanting to do it... as soon as you have decided make the appointment. |

Hi
I DO NOT regret it at all....Im a very impulsive person, and as soon as my mind has been made up i want it to happen
From deciding to actually being declared was 1 month - and that was only because of the local county court waiting list.
