I am considering to go bankrupt in the next few months but have one question that I would like confirmed if possible:
I live with my partner's Mum and Dad, will they be affected by this at all? Will they have problems getting credit in the future as I am logged as living at their address or will it affect their family name at all in any fashion?
I have heard you can write to Experian and request a financial dis-association but would like it confirmed that they will be 100% unaffected!
Bit worried that I will be looked at as the black sheep and dragging their name down!!!
I believe that only your own name would be searched at the address. Your bankruptcy may be advertised in the local press and so might be a cuase for embarrassment. Your name would definitely be recorded in the London Gazette newspaper (Edinburgh Gazette in Scotland).
If either of your parents applied for credit I beleive, as above, that only their name would be searched at the address, not yours and so your bankruptcy would not affect them.
There may be anomalies and it could be worth writing to Equifax, Experian and Call credit to get them to confirm their policies on searches and recording data.
Just to confirm the replies you have already received - under no circumstances would other people at your home address be affected by your bankruptcy order. I would though highly recommend you discuss with them your intentions, as it will be advertised (name, address & occupation) in the legal notice section of your local paper - it's best they know just incase they or someone else recognises the address!
