Hi there - I was in a similar situation. Lots of debts all in my name and living in rented accomodation. I have just gone BR and it has not affected my husband at all, its my debt and my bankruptcy. Sure one of the experts will come along and verify this but there may be better solutions. Hope it all goes ok.

Hi Suet and welcome to the forum

Sorry to hear about your situation but the very best thing is complete openess with your husband because the last thing you need is for this to damage the relationship and tear you both apart.

Because of the job you do and your income it is highly unlikely that this would affect your husband at all.

However I would really suggest that introducing a third party to discuss openly the situation, implications and way forward may be hugely beneficial as you husband may need some external reassurance about the situation.

Which part of the country are you in?

Hi Suet,

Suggest you ring one of the experts to talk through specifics that may impact on you or your husband.

If you do file for bankruptcy, you will need to attend St Albans County Court - as Watford CC doesn't cover insolvency - The Official Receivers office is also in St Albans.

All the best Alan

Hi there

Did you spend all of the £50,000 on yourself - or was the money used for household and other shared expenditure? It is a shame that your husband is blaming you for this - when he has probably benefitted directly or indirectly from some of the borrowings - however I suspect that it is probably more the shock of not knowing that has made him react in the way he did when you first told him.

You now ought to take professional advice from a licensed insolvency practitioner who can explaim the various options available to you.

For an informal chat about any financial difficulties, or advice as to the options available, I can be contacted via my website - www.melaniegiles.com
