I have just made my self bankrupt & i got my phone call from the OR next tue what i wana no is will i be able to keep my contract mobile phone & my internet access? I have also got a laptop would that be classed as a luxary item?
The laptop won't be classed as a luxury item. The contract mobile phone will depend upon the company you have the contract with. If you don't have any debts with the company then just carry on paying the monthly bill and there shouldn't be any problems. This will be the same with the Internet access. Provided you keep up the payments and aren't in any arrears everything should be fine. You can only claim for the cost of Internet access on your I&E if you need it for work or educational purposes otherwise the amount needs to come out of any disposable income.
Small tip here: I just put "BT" on my I&E at £50 per month, I did not mention the word internet and I assume the OR thought this was just the phone line but it includes internet too
It depends on the value of your laptop as to whether you'll be able to keep it. If it's a bog standard laptop you should be fine, but if it's worth thousands then the OR may be interested.
I never mentioned my mobile on my I & E - I don't have a landline in my name so I just put the cost down under telephone.
