We are filing for bankruptcy this month (me and oh). Wanted to know how that will affect things like landline telephone accounts and water rates accounts... can we still set these accounts up?
How long does it normally take from being bankrupt to being discharged?
Hi Awol, you may still have accounts with your utilities. The standard disccharge period is 12 months. The OR can grant an earlier discharge if your case is completed quickly and there are no concerns about your conduct. Most people expect 12 mnths and think of early discharge as a Brucie Bonus if they get it.
The only thing to add is that in rare occasions the OR can apply to the court to suspent your discharge (extend bankruptcy) if they do not think that you have co-operated.
