Hi Everyone,

I was declared bankrupt on 25/9/09 and have just had my telephone interview. I was feeling sick beforehand because of the unknown!!!! Now its over and it was no where near as bad as I thought!! Fortunately all my debt was from 10 years ago. The examiner was very polite, non-judgemental and very very fair! I am on benefits but also receive child maintenance he said he would have to look into my expenditure to see whether I was to get an IPA because of the child maintenance he said if you don't hear anything within 3 months then take it you won't get one!!! I thought 3 months is a long time to wait but 10 minutes later I got a phone call from him saying he had a quick look at the figures and there is definately no scope at the moment for an IPA, but obviously this would change if my circumstances changed!!!!

I am so glad that it is all over now, I have carried the weight of my debt on my shoulders for the past 10 years and not really been able to enjoy life and my children, that all changed 2 weeks ago when I declared bankrupt.

I know everyone's circumstances are different but if you are thinking about declaring bankruptcy and have received advice, things will get better, it may be tough for a couple of weeks but in comparison to the stress I have had for 10 years it wasn't anywhere near as bad!!!

I would like to thank everyone on the forum for making me realise that we are not alone and it helped me face up to things!!!!

I am now debt free and can enjoy my two beautiful children who along with me have been through alot during the past 12 months.

Karen xx

I hope everything goes well for you Matt, I have been planning this for the past year and leading up to it I know how nerve racking it can be!! But I can honestly say that my experience has been ok and I am sure yours will be too!! Just be honest and co operate and you will be fine.

Good Luck, let us know how you get on.

Great new Karen, so glad it went ok. You went BR same day as me. Like you I had a very fair interview and it was no way as bad as I was expecting. I had my interview Tuesday but havent had anything from them yet. I do have an IPA but I dont care, its fair and like you say the stress of the last few years is just draining away.
Good luck for the future.

Good news and delighted to hear about the IPA.
I didn't think for a minute that there would be one but always good to get confirmation,

you sounded so different on the phone!!! Stress free and ready to take on the rest of your life.
